Lower Damgate Farm Peak District Wedding Photography

Bride and groom portrait in a sunset

Hannah and Charlie’s wedding at Lower Damgate Farm was one of those days that reminds me exactly why I love being a documentary wedding photographer. Set deep in the rolling hills of the Peak District, surrounded by animals, open fields and big views of Derbyshire countryside, their wedding felt warm, heartfelt and completely true to who they are.

A Peak District Wedding Full of Heart

Lower Damgate Farm is an animal sanctuary as well as a wedding venue, which gave the whole day this beautiful sense of compassion and calm. Guests were greeted by goats wandering the fields, curious alpacas watching from a distance, and that familiar Peak District breeze that makes everything feel a little more alive.

Hannah and Charlie planned a fully vegan wedding, and it suited the setting perfectly — thoughtful, ethical and deeply personal. Every detail reflected what mattered most to them: kindness, connection and celebrating with the people they love.

Unscripted Moments and Happy Chaos

One of my favourite parts of documentary photography is capturing the unexpected moments such as a particularly cheeky goat wandering over with a glint in its eye… and before any of us could react, it took a confident bite straight out of the bouquet. Hannah burst into laughter, and I clicked the shutter at just the right second! It was absolute perfection — the kind of moment you could never stage.

Those little pockets of joy kept happening throughout the day. Guests feeding the animals, craziness on the dancefloor and guests gambling away at the pop up casino! Every time I turned around, there was another moment waiting to be photographed.

Celebrating With Nature as the Backdrop

Lower Damgate Farm has this lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The ceremony overlooked green fields and distant moorland, and the reception unfolded in courtyards and barns that felt cosy and welcoming. It was one of those weddings where people naturally gravitated into little groups — storytelling, laughter, drinks in hand — and I drifted between them capturing it all as it unfolded.

As evening settled in, the animals gathered closer around the paddocks and the landscape turned golden. It was one of those Peak District evenings that feels almost cinematic — soft light, big skies and a sense of calm settling over everything.

A Day That Felt True

Looking back on Hannah and Charlie’s wedding, the thing that stands out most isn’t the scenery (though the Peak District was stunning), or even the hilarious goat incident — it’s the authenticity of the day. Every moment felt honest. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was forced.

It was a wedding built entirely around love, kindness, and the joy of being surrounded by people (and animals!) who matter.

Lower Damgate Farm was the perfect backdrop for their story, and it was a privilege to document a day that felt so full of life.
